The Play

Spudmunchers is an unflinching look at the attitudes and prejudices that are part and parcel of being an Irish immigrant in the U.S. today.  Set in the Irish enclave of Woodlawn, the Bronx, it is the story of two brothers, one a construction worker the other an aspiring writer, who emigrated to the U.S. twenty years ago.  Donal likes his pint and the Yankees. Leonard prefers tea and Yeats’ poetry. Now approaching middle-age, they find themselves at something of a crossroads, stuck somewhere between the fields of Ireland and McLean Avenue in the Bronx. Things come to a head when they realize they finally can agree on one thing. Her name is Maeve.
